What We Do

Our Vision- Why we do what we do

God is love. We are called to share that love, and the hope we've found in Jesus Christ.

Jesus said, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him." - John 3:16-17 NRSV

We have known and believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them. 1 John 4:16 NRSV

Our Mission - What we do

Making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world

Jesus said, "Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:19-20 - the Great Commission)

Our Strategy- How we do it

Every mission needs a strategy for accomplishing the mission. Our strategy helps persons journey from no/nominal relationship with Jesus Christ to being fully devoted followers making a lasting difference in our neighborhood and world. It begins by recognizing we cannot do this in our own strength. The mission must be empowered by the Holy Spirit through deep prayer, devotion and worship.

From this starting point, we follow Jesus in ministries of Reaching, Connecting, Growing, and Transforming.

  • Reaching people for Christ
  • Connecting people to Christ and His Church
  • Growing people in Christ
  • Transforming our Neighborhood and World with Christ

Each word ends in “ing,” reminding us we do everything “In the Name of God.” Each ministry description is a verb, reminding us of the action oriented and ongoing nature of the strategy. Each ministry is joined together in a ring of relationship because Jesus died and rose again so we could be in right relationship with God, others, ourselves, and the earth.

Our Connection - we are a United Methodist congregation:

Trinity UMC is proud to be part of The United Methodist Church - a worldwide movement of Jesus Christ and the second largest Protestant denomination in the United States.  We are as much a product of the Enlightenment as the Reformation and value intellectually and emotionally satisfying worship and spiritual growth.  Our understanding of God and God's creation is shaped through Scripture, Tradition, Experience, and Reason.  As such, we have founded seminaries and universities including Florida Southern College and Bethune-Cookman University here in Florida. We also believe that a growing spiritual awareness compels us to be in ministries of compassion and justice in Sarasota and around the world. One of our main initiatives as United Methodists is to eradicate malaria, the oldest known infectious disease. Malaria kills 1 person every minute and we believe God will use us in partnership with others to end this disease in our lifetime.
